I have heard “I hate marketing” or some version of that
statement many times, and I understand. I like marketing,
and still sometimes I hate marketing.

One of the biggest problems is that there are so many
options that it’s sometimes impossible to know if you’re
doing the right things at the right times.  I really do
understand.

If you have thousands of dollars in your marketing budget,
you can pay consultants to help you with creating a plan,
purchasing print advertising, executing a search engine
optimization (SEO) program, creating an effective pay per
click internet advertising campaign and/or creating a viral
marketing movie.  Oh yea, you will also need a highly
effective and gorgeous website.

continual year round part of your marketing strategy. There
are so many benefits to exhibiting at trade shows that it
should always be in the back of your mind. The results of
one show can directly impact the effect of your next show

Establishing and implementing your post-show activities
should be as important to your show results as being there.

What should be done after the show closes?

How to Easily Make Your Customers Always Think of You

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Have you ever noticed that people get incredibly happy
whenever you unexpectedly think of them or do something for
them?

It doesn’t matter if it’s related to your business or
personal life.  Take Oprah Winfrey for example.  At a live
event a few years ago, she mentioned how she loves to
purchase makeup whenever it’s “Clinique Bonus Time” as she
gets a gift.

Global supply chain management has emerged as a major topic
in the age of globalization and now it is sitting at the
heart of the whole system.  But you might be asking
yourself, so what exactly is supply chain management and
how can it affect my company?

Let’s understand what it is first.

From the production house the product starts it journey and
travels through to the supplier, distributor, retailer and
ends at the hands of the consumer.  This whole journey is a
well managed mechanism and controlled by supply chain
management.  When it goes global and the journey of the
product covers multiple countries, then it is called global
supply chain management.

Scary How These “Friendly” Words Sabotage Cold Calls

When we were kids, most of us had some adult teach us to
greet people with a “Hello” or “Good Morning”, to say,
“Please” and “Thank you”, and to ask permission of adults
before going out to play with the neighborhood kids.

Flash forward a couple of decades and those same social
niceties are reinforced by all sorts of business and sales
gurus who tell us what we need to know we learned in
kindergarten!

So, imagine my surprise when I first heard about the
executive committee meetings where presenters received
specific, no-nonsense instructions for their conduct during
these meetings.

Management Training – Myth, Magic or Mayhem?

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

Training courses!  The most recent had been termed
“Management for Senior Officers” and had been a minor
disaster – all psychology and how to be nice to junior
officers.  How to involve them, how to motivate them, how
to relate to them.  Rebus had returned to his station and
tried it for one day, a day of involving, of motivating, of
relating.  At the end of the day, a Detective Constable had
slapped a hand on Rebus’ back, smiling.

“Bloody hard work today, John.  But I’ve enjoyed it.”

“Take your hand off my f….ng back.” Rebus had snarled.
“And don’t call me John.”

The DC’s mouth fell open.  “But you said … “ he began, but
didn’t bother finishing.  The brief holiday was over.
Rebus had tried being a manager.  Tried it and loathed it.

Moving the Needle on Employee Engagement and Commitment

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

When it comes to employee engagement and commitment to an
organization, most companies would agree that they ‘have
some, want more.’ Why? These companies have come to
recognize that their organization’s long-term success
relies on employee performance, which is directly impacted
by the level of employee engagement and commitment to an
organization.

How is employee engagement and commitment defined?
According to a 2003 report by Towers Perrin, it is defined
as “employees’ willingness and ability to contribute to
company success.” What does that mean in real terms? It is
the extent to which your employees are willing to put
discretionary effort into their work in the form of “extra
time, brainpower and energy.”

The Secret to Building a Highly Profitable Business

Sunday, October 22nd, 2006

Copyright 2006 Tony Mase

The first business of any business is to make a profit…

Plain and simple!

Think about it…

Regardless of what kind of business it is, regardless of
whether it’s selling a product or a service, regardless of
whether it’s doing business online or offline, if a
business isn’t making a profit it doesn’t have any reason
to exist, does it?

However…

Profit alone isn’t enough.

*How* a profit is made has far more to do with the ultimate
success or failure of a business than the profit itself.
