Blogging for Business

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Many businesses are using blogging as a tool for communication with their customers and clients. These blogs create customer loyalty and satisfaction and bring more traffic to their website creating more sales. Have you started a blog for you business? If not, here are a couple of reasons for setting up your own blog on your website.

1. New products or services

Blogging allows you to communicate quickly to your client base. Marketing new products or services can costs thousands of dollars from inception, to printing, to mailing or exectution. This method has a vital role in any marketing campaign, but what if you could let all of your clients, and potential clients, know the day that begin selling a new product or service.

Having a blog set up on your website would allow you to notify everyone of your new product or service. You would list your product name, the features, and the benefits it offers. You can receive instant feedback from people who review your offer from the comments section. From there, you are able to evaluate, update, or change your offer.

Businesses are using this strategy to move quickly in front of competitors.

2. Attract new clients

Blogging for your business allows you to reach new customers and clients. In today’s world, potential customers are reviewing products and services online to gather their own research.

They want to make sure they have a comfortable understanding of what your product or services offers. Blogging is a way for you to highlight your product and differentiate yourself from your competitors. The more “value” that you are able to demonstrate in your blog, the more likely customers will call you first.

3. Share knowledge and expertise

A business blog allows you to share your own personal and business knowledge and expertise. This allows potential clients to trust you, and feel confident that you know what you are doing and will be able to solve their problems.

Who doesn’t like to talk about themselves or their business? Blogging allows you to talk about anything you want to about yourself or your business. It’s a time where you can share your personal insights and experiences in the industry. Doing so puts you in the highlight and further exemplifies your expertise and leadership in your business field.

As competition for retaining clients and attracting new ones grow, blogging for you business is a 21st century tool to allow you to keep one step ahead of your competitors.

Apple iPhone to be released June 29th

Friday, May 25th, 2007

The long awaited Apple iPhone will be released June 29th.

The new Apple iPhone will be one of the most technological advanced phones to be released yet.  It will make you wonder how you ever talked on that big cell phone from the 80’s.  The iPhone will have touch sensors on it where you can surf the Internet, download and play your music, full calendar, and yes, you will even be able to make phone calls with it.

I do not know if it will have much of a business application for it.  I have a Blackberry myself, and it meets most of my needs.  It will be interested to see where this iPhone fits into the market.

The retail price will range from $449-$600.

5 Simple Interviewing Tips

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

1. Prepare - When going into an interview, make sure you have throughly researched the company, and the position that you are applying for. There is nothing better in an interview than being able to speak well and intelligently in front of the hiring manager.

2. Dress Well - It’s never a bad thing to be over dressed for your position. A suit is always recommended.

3. Smile - Smiling shows enthusiam and let’s the hiring manager know that you are excited about the position. Hiring managers want people who are eager to work for the company.

4. Question - Make sure you have questions to ask the hiring manager. You should have enough knowledge from the research you already conducted to have 3-4 very detailed questions to ask.

5. Relax - If you have confidence in yourself, and have prepared, relax a little bit. Over thinking or stressing too much in an interview is a turn-off. Remember, talk to the hiring manager in a relaxed voice and have fun.

Remember, it’s all a game. Play it well.

Be happy at work!

You are spending anywhere from 40-60 hours a week at work, and many people aren’t happy with their jobs. That seems completely insane! A lot of people bring that same emotion back home, and that doesn’t make anyone feel good.

So whay can you do to find more happiness and job satisfaction? The majority of it, is your perception on life and work. There are many great quotes on how “perception is reality”. If you take a positve outlook on work, you are more likely to find good things.

Resume Pet Peave - Email address

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

I have seen many resumes over the last 10 years working as a hiring manager.

One of the pet peaves that get’s me is when someone has a cute, funny, or offensive email address.  Remember, email addresses should be at the top of the resume, so it doesn’t take long if I’m going to exclude an entire resume.

sugamomma@hotmail.com - I hope you have a suger daddy to take care of you because I’m not going to call.

fratboybeerbong@yahoo.com - You must be too young or still in college.  My business is too important to have someone come in hung over every Friday morning.

ihatebush@gmail.com - Keep your politics out of this.  Unless you’re going to work for a political organization, I don’t care about your politics.  We’re in business to make money, that’s the bottom line.

Have a professional email address, even if it’s with yahoo, hotmail, or gmail.  You can use your first name and last name.  If that’s already taken, be creative and use your initials or a hypen or a dot in there someplace so you can secure a decent email address.

Since the email address is at the top of the resume, it’s going to tell me if I should even consider looking at the content.  Keep it professional, and you’ve made another step to getting an interview.

Work according to your personality

I found this site today that is a personality quiz.  Based on the results it tells you what profession you should be in:

Test - career personality

Apparently, I should be checking bags at Walmart…

similarminds.com - Leadership

Ha!  I got a kick out of this site.

http://similarminds.com/leader.html

I took the 45 question test to see how I most resemble.  I won’t post here what the results are because personally I don’t like the “famous” person I most resembled.

Take the test and have fun.
