Boston for the weekend

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

A client of mine was able to get some red sox tickets for this weekends games against the Texas Rangers.

I’ve always enjoyed baseball, and I really like to see the games live.

I flew up to Boston last night and we’re going to go out to meet some friends of his at a local pub.

I really like the business I’m in because it’s all about relationships. I’ve made many good friends through the relationships I’ve built and it’s times like these that I truly appreciate my life and how wonderful things are going.

I hope all of you are able to enjoy your jobs as you lead companies and manage people.

Internet Entrepreneurs - webventurers.com

Friday, June 29th, 2007

The Internet has changed the way everyone thinks about business from theories, best practices, and the way business happens. In today’s world, if your company doesn’t have a blog you are living in the “old age” of business.

Due to the increase of the Internet and cheap domain hosting, almost anyone can put together a website and make themselves visible online.

There are many people who prosper online as well, making a name for themselves and their companies. There are countless stories of people becoming extremely wealthy online while having a lot of fun and that is where a new website called webventurers.com comes into play.

Webventurers.com is bringing you internet entrepreneur interviews and letting them tell you their stories of how they became successful online. Don’t think you can do it? Sure you can. This is an example of “standing on the shoulders of giants”. The interviewees will tell you the pitfalls and how to avoid them, and how you can become successful just like they have. Their advice is well prepared and can work with your ventures when online.

The first interview on this site is of David Lithman who has already created a successful website called “David Lithman’s Web Development Blog” and he tells of how he started in the business and what the future lays ahead for him on the Internet.

Webventurers.com will give you inspiration and motivation to become a leader online and achieve your website goals.

I think webventurers.com is a great site to checkout and add to your bookmarks as it will continue to fill up with great information from the industry leaders.

Michael Moore banned from Wall Street

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

According to Dealbreaker.com, Michael Moore was scheduled to have an interview on CNBC today.  However, someone banned him from coming on the show.

I think this is justified because his new movie “Sicko” takes on the healthcare industry.  Many of the businesses involved in the health care industry are not at all happy with his documentary and they way he spins his movie to promote an agenda.

I think Michael Moore forgot to mention in his movie how many foreigners come to the states each year because we have one of the best health care industries in the world.

I also think he has a beef with the healthcare industry because he’s fat, and he doesn’t know how to take personal responsibility and eat well and exercise.  In fact, no health care system can “force” you to be healthy.  It’s a personal choice each individual must make themselves.

**Dealbreaker.com just updated their site saying that Moore may now be unbanned…

Unique Business Building Designs

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Have you ever walked into a hotel or business that had a timber frame construction for its building?

If you have, you know how beautiful the architecture is and how intricate the details are inside the building. It’s almost like turning back to the 1800’s and being Paul Bunyan out in the wilderness ready to chop down some trees! If not, it’s certainly a site to see. You will be truly amazed by the beauty of a well built timber building.

There are certain companies in the outdoor industry that these types of buildings are perfectly suited for, from hotels out in the forests to welcome centers in Vermont. These are the type of companies that enjoy the rustic, scenic lifestyle of the outdoors. Their clients enjoy the outdoors the same way and look forward to visiting these businesses that have the same values.

One of the top construction companies for these types of timber buildings is Vermont Timber Works out of Vermont. They were actually the original timber frame builder in the nation, and their completed projects definitely show that they are the best.

They have completed all sorts of projects from residential houses, churches, high schools, museums, and commercial buildings. You can view pictures of their work online at Vermont Timber Works.

They have an excellent laid out website where you can learn more about their company and the process they use to for the construction. If you’re looking for a job in the construction industry, there just may be an opening as well if you check out their career page.

The next time you’re up in the north east area, look around and see the beauty of their work and enjoy the scenery.

Accountability in Your Mastermind Group

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

As an entrepreneur, you have no boss to pat you on the back in your successes and no boss to discipline you in your failures.  You are completely responsible for the success of your business.

On of the major benefits of a Mastermind group is being accountable for your actions.

Your Mastermind group should motivate and inspire you into action.  Reaching out beyond your comfort zone and achieving more than you ever could alone.

When your Mastermind group challenges you, they will hold you accountable for your actions.  This is very important to your business because when you succeed, they will praise you for your success.  However, if you begin to fail, they will give you constructive criticism so you can reorganize your strategy or method so you will begin to succeed.

There are few places an entrepreneur can find himself accountable for his actions, a Mastermind group is a great place to receive the benefits of accountablity.

Successful TV Advertising

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Whether you’re a huge corporation, or a small business, your job is to bring in clients and make sales. Without a client, a sale cannot be made. Without a sale, your business will fail. Period.

There are many different ways you can advertise your business to bring in clients. It used to be that television advertising was only allowed for the big boys who had lots and lots of money.

However, there are now companies that will buy bulk commercial time and resell that time at an affordable price to smaller clients in local markets. This now has opened up a new advertising strategy for many small businesses who only serve their local or regional market.

You will want to find a television marketing specialists to work with your company. It is important that they are big enough to deliver the solutions you need for your business, but at the same time small enough so they truly understand your business and how to get the most out of TV advertising.

You may not be ready for a 30 second, $1 million dollar spot in the Super Bowl, but there are many cost effective solutions so you can serve your local market and let your clients know that you’re established enough to have a commercial on the TV.

Get your company out there on the TV and let your clients come to you.

Why managers fail

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

There are many reasons why and how managers fail or succeed.  Many of the reasons that they fail is because they aren’t prepared to take on all the responsibilites of management.

Some newly hired managers come from outside the organization, and they have a tough time grasping the inside politics, rules, and regulations.  This creates a lot of tension between them and other employees resulting in poor decision making and poor management.  This is the number one reason many companies hire managers from within.  These managers already know how to function smoothly in the organization and already know who to count one within the business.

However, there are certain times that you want to hire from outside.  When you hire from within the organization, there’s no outside influence to create change or a new direction.  The company will continue to move forward just as it has been before.  But if you’re looking for change, hiring outside the company is a must.

The other big reason why managers fail is because they don’t know how to handle people properly.  Many new managers never had to manage people before.  This is such a big task that if the manager hasn’t been trained properly, they will cause a lot of tension and conflict within the workplace.  Many employees will believe that the manager has favorites and dictates work tasks according to relationships instead of who will get the job done best.

The best way to make sure your managers succeed and become great managers is through proper education and training.  If you are going to hire from within the company, this is a must.  You want to make sure your new manager will be able to take on all the tasks and duties that come with the responsibility of management.  If you hire from outside, you want to make sure that the manager already has proven success in management.  This way you know you’re getting someone that already has the skills to manage people, create new ideas, and lead accordingly.

Golfing, Executive Style

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Oh, the life of an executive. Taking a Wednesday afternoon off work, to go meet with “clients” on the golf course. It’s a good position to be in, and enjoyable.

If you’re like me, you’re probably always looking to better your golf game. Even though you’re going to let your client win, you want to know that you could have won…if you wanted to.

To continue to progress in your game, you need to make sure to keep track of your scores. This is the first step in improving your game. In this day and age it’s easy to keep you score with golf handicap tracker software.

Golf handicap software does two things for you. First, since you are able to keep track of your handicap, you will notice when your game is on and when your game is off. You will be able to improve your game in the areas that are hurting your game and continue to excel in the rest of your game.

Second, golf handicap software allows you to keep your handicap even if you’re not in any golf club organizations. You will be able to maintain a handicap card used for official tournaments.

NetHandicap allows you to keep your handicap stored online so you can access it anywhere. So the next time you’re preparing for the next meeting, you can take a breather to study your golf game online.

The NetHandicap software will allow you to play in official USGA tournaments and events, analyze your golf progress, and get detailed progress reports.

Best of all, there is a free trial so you can get accustomed to the software and how it works. Go ahead and try it out at NetHandicap.com.

We’ll see you on the links!

iPhone Fanatics

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

There will be many people waiting outside stores on Friday when the new, and much hyped iPhone’s hit the shelves.

Should you buy one now, or should you wait?

Many of the early adopters will be out there and ready to try out the iPhone.  Those are the people that get all hopped up on new technologies and want to be the first ones to buy, try, and review them.  I personally have a lot of “technology junk” in boxes when I was an early adopter of new technologies in the late ’90s.  There is a certain excitement of being the first out of all your friends to have the newest gadget to play around with.  I understand that there are lines already starting to form for when the Apple iPhone is released.

However, these days are a little slower and I’m not so fast to test out the newest technology.

From what I’ve heard, many people are going to sit on the sidelines with the new Apple iPhone comes out.  These are some of the same people that are normally the early adopters too!

There are a few reasons why they are waiting on this one.  The first being they want to see if it actually works as planned.  The iPhone has many promises to deliver on.  There is a lot of technology in this phone, and if it works correctly, it should be the best out there.

There are some issues that people have brought up, and they don’t know if it’s going to work with their business applications.  Many of the business minded people have grown accustomed to their Blackberry and the functions that it provides.  The Apple iPhone is going to be a challenge for IT managers to set up and integrate it with the rest of their platform.

Also, the iPhone service will only be provided with AT&T.  It will be hard to leave your current service provider and pay the fee to change over to the iPhone.

Personally, I’m going to wait this one out until all the bugs are worked out.  Hopefully, the price will come down a little as well.  I’ll look at it again when the second or third version comes out.
